COLLEGE STATION (AP) – Stephen McGee will be Texas A&M’s starting quarterback for the Aggies’ opener against Arkansas State on August 30.
A&M coach Mike Sherman said the senior McGee has outplayed sophomore Jerrod Johnson in fall practices and earned the job. Sherman said at the start of fall workouts that the two would have an open competition for the position.
McGee was the Aggies’ starting quarterback for the past two seasons under Dennis Franchione. Sherman said McGee hasn’t thrown an interception yet in August practices.
McGee threw for 2,311 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. He’s 16-11 as a starter.
