Congratulations to Ron Kocian, the Warrior's Weekend Leadership committee, and the hundreds of volunteers who put together a fabulous event to raise money to support the fourth annual Warrior's Weekend in Port O'Connor, Texas on May 22.
The support of businesses and individuals from Victoria and the Golden Crescent was tremendous. I believe that the fundraising goals were exceeded many times over.
The significance of the POW/MIA Missing Man Table will never be forgotten by anyone who attended this event. We especially want to thank the families of some of our local fallen heroes for attending and allowing us to honor them and express our appreciation for their sacrifice for our country.
Sadly, as sometimes happens, one individual volunteer felt it was important to get up on stage and tell everyone that they should be giving more than they were. She was compelled to tell the crowd that they weren't there just to eat and drink and have fun, but to support this worthy cause.
For the record, I don't think one person at this event bought tickets just to have a delicious ribeye and drink. We could do this anywhere. Businesses and individuals supported this event because they wanted to show support to our brave men and women who are putting themselves out there to protect us and our nation.
For those of you who left after being insulted by this woman, please know that we understand. We thank you for the support you had already given by purchasing your tickets, participating in the silent and live auction, as well as the raffle. We know that you will forgive the ignorance of one person and remember that this event and cause is bigger than all of us. We know that all of you will continue to support our troops, which is what this is all about.
Again, thank you organizers for allowing this community to give back to those who are so willing to give everything for us.
Job well done!
I am a 1SG in the TX National Guard and Victoria native and I just wanted to be there and help my fellow brothers in arms. Again this year I have to miss it again but I know they will get the much needed support. My wife who works for Target went to lend a hand with her co-workers and said it was great to be able to lend a hand. Me and My men are currently here in Iraq again and say thanks for the local area support for the future great event in May.
Let's do it for the warriors, too bad I will not be able to there this year to support my wounded brethren but as usual I know that Mr. Kocian will do an outstanding job and oh course, the people of the Golden Crescent will support him.
