Arrangements for Ashley Andrea Carmona-Pena are pending at Moore Funeral Home in Refugio, 402 South Alamo St. The funeral home may be reached at 361-526-4334.
A 3-year-old girl died and four people were injured in a single-vehicle wreck early Saturday about 10 miles north of Refugio.
Ashley Andrea Carmona-Pena, of Charlotte, N.C., was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:07 a.m. by Refugio County Justice of the Peace Lorraine Lopez, according to Texas Department of Public Safety operator Stephen Lindner.
Melissa Ann Carmona-Pena, 24, of Charlotte, N.C., was driving a GMC truck south on U.S. Highway 77 when she lost control of the vehicle about 3:42 a.m., according to the incident report.
The truck rolled over and came to a rest in the northbound lane, partially ejecting the 3-year-old, according to Lindner.
Three other children were in the vehicle at the time.
DPS identified the children as 4-year-old Savannah Stevey, 2-year-old Yurida Christina Carmona-Pena and 5-month-old Julio Carmona-Pena, all of Charlotte, N.C.
Winston Moore is owner of Moore Funeral Home in Refugio, where arrangements are pending for Ashley. Melissa Carmona-Pena is the mother of the four children, he said. She said the family was on its way to Mexico to see her husband, who had been deported, Moore said.
Melissa Carmona-Pena, Yurida and Julio were taken to Refugio County Memorial Hospital while Savannah was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Lindner said.
Spokespersons for both hospitals declined to provide an update on their conditions, but Moore said all had been released by Sunday.
Only Julio had on any type of seatbelt or child restraint, Lindner said.
The crash is still under investigation by DPS Trooper Cesar Villarreal.
