  • Edith - Stroman is part of Memorial High School, just a separate campus, and therefore, their numbers are included in the report.

  • No scores from Stroman? They didn't take the test?

  • like i said sage1, the students and teachers should be proud of improvement, but i wouldn't throw a ticker tape parade.

  • Holein1: 70% in math is not exceptional, but we grew 8% in this area, 7% in science. English and Social Studies are in the low 90%. I'm happier this year than I was last year.

Just don't forget - the TAKS is a very weak assessment when compared to the state assessments from other states. So our kids or doing well - on a very easy test. We still have a long way to go if we are going to dig Texas out of 50th place in education.

  • "Overall, these scores are exceptional"

I think the teachers and students should be proud of their improvement.

Exceptional is may be pushing it a little. 78% in Math overall and 70% in Math for Memorial. Not what I would call exceptional. To quote my dad from my high school days, "70 isn't even mediocre."

Again, let's celebrate the improvement but don't exaggerate it. It does follow the trend of giving awards for showing up though.

  • I find it funny that an article stating something good about VISD gets ONE comment, but if its anything remotely negative it gets 100+ comments. lol
