• I guess there is no explanation for some things in life. For example some of the bloggers on this forum will never stop finding a reason to twist proof, facts and avoid plain common sense to explain away why Tyler needs to go back to the front lines in Korea and protect us there from North Koreas nukes rather than nuking everyone here that he does not like..... using the power of the Victoria Countys DA's office. If Tyler is your guy why are you not standing on street corners holding one of his signs campaigning for him. Not afraid you will get your booty run over are you?

  • The issue is NOT whether District Attorney Steve Tyler or Special prosecutor Terry McDonald or for that case any prosecutor who rules on ANY cases in Victoria, the real issue is.. Offenders will be let off due to a technicality or lack of evidence. The post is not attacking Mr. Tyler, what is stated is: I'm sure he does his all to bring these people to justice and wants to hold them accountable for their actions, HOWEVER, why are they ALL let off? It is one thing to accuse and have numerous Facts, witness and proof of these offenses and another to PROSECUTE these offenders. Right now Victoria does not have a good track record in achieving this! This is not only questing actions by our city officials but also remember all our shady VISD superintendents that were dismissed due to poor results and had to be paid off to buy out their contracts.

  • How about it "will?" do tell us about this horrible experience.. it seems like many law enforcement agencies are using social networks to reach out to citizens. Seems cutting edge to me... Maybe you should also lodge complaints on law enforcement agencies such as Houston PD, Toronto PD, as they too "play" on Facebook. I see that VPD has been identifying suspects via Facebook lately. In spite of nay sayers and an anti cop DA, the crime rate is being reduced via inventive ways and hard work. My hat is off to VPD and it's officers!

  • Will, It's easy to call someone a liar, but you have to back up your claim. Just saying it does not make it so. You say you had and encounter with him then please share how he lied. If you can not do this then I expect VICAD to remove your post.

  • oxymoron....Smith is moving forward with his appeal because the prosecution is moving forward and he is trying to head that off.

Perhaps the Advocate could get a response from the special prosecutor as to the status of the case and what his intentions are.

My belief is that, since it has not been dismissed, its still on the docket, so it's going forward. Maybe the Advocate does not want people to think about that before the election??

  • Steve Tyler chooses to shoot from the hip rather than work together with officials to get things done. He has chosen to shoot at everyone around him in attempt to distract from his poor choices and inept job performance. He's been shooting in all directions, wasting his time and taxpayer dollars on his frivoulous strategies, and he's now out of bullets.
I'm still waiting for his explaination for hiring a child molester while such person was under investigation for such hideous acts.

  • Hey Wake Up!!! Just cause these people were found not Guilty....does not mean they weren't!! What about OJ Simpson...think he was guilty?? Case Closed!!! By the way, Steve does not like me, But I follow the law....So I am not to worried!

  • KCi said "Apparently be believes there is sufficient evidence to convict and that's why he's going forward."

Show me where he is going forward. I have heard nothing in a long time about this case since the specical prosecuter took over. Seems to me he is just sitting on it hoping it goes away and this blak mark that Tyler created just continues to loom over Victoria not going in either direction.

Smith is moving forward so that he can get his name cleared and not have this cloud over him anymore.

I would have liked to seent hem all go to trial so that Victoria would have seen the truth for what it was, but Tyler and now the special prosecuter keep dropping the ball somewhere and it never gets to trial. hmmmm maybe cause there is nothing there to take to trial.

  • mikeberman..what part of SPECIAL PROSECUTOR do you not understand? It's not about Tyler anymore. The special prosecutor has had the opportunity to dismiss the charges if he did not believe in them. Apparently be believes there is sufficient evidence to convict and that's why he's going forward. And that's why the defense attorney is grasping at straws.

I, too, look forward to this case coming to trial very soon....but I think the outcome may be very different from what you envision.

  • kCi: Steve charges Echeverry.. NOT Guilty. Steve charges Mayor.. Indictment DISMISSED.. Steve charges Police Chief.. Indictment DISMISSED.. Steve appeals Police Chief's ruling.. State appeal panel said he ABANDONED HIS APPEAL and again he LOST. Hiis batting score against VPD and public officials is 0 PERCENT. Mr. Smith and the police Lieutenant will be exonerated very, very soon. Even the most simplest of logic prevails on this topic: Tyler uses his office to go after those he don't like.... Oh, but he eventually loses EVERY time. Wake up!

  • Steve Tyler has not made Victoria the laughing stock of Victoria as Mikeberman claims. Some Victorians and their actions did! Wake Up and stop blamming others!

  • So...this case is still continuing with the SPECIAL PROSECUTOR? Very interesting. Some people seem to be missing the point that Tyler is no longer on the's out of his hands.

That simple fact seems to blow a mighty big hole in the accusations of Tyler conducting a vendetta against city officials. Here we have an special prosecutor, brought from outside the city (and called for by Tyler's critics) reviewing the case and going forward with it.

The defense attorney is just now filing yet another appeal? Wasn't the fact that the two men he mentioned were in the grand jury room known before this week? Why file now?? Oh yea...the city council gave him a blank check for defense costs...wonder how much he charged the city for his work on this appeal?

Regardless of the outome of Tuesday's election...this case is going forward. Filing YET another appeal sounds like the defense attorney (and Smith) are pretty desperate for this case not go to trial. Wonder why?

Where are the comments attacking the special prosecutor for doing his job? Where are the editorials railing against the injustice of city officials being prosecuted?

    October 28, 2010 at 5:43 a.m.
  • What part of special prosecutor do you not get. Tyler is not on the case any more. An independent prosecutor appointed by the court reviewed the file and believes perjury occurred. The defendant is not asking that the indictment be thrown out because he didn't lie, he is asking that it should be thrown out over a technicality that being there were extra witnesses to the lie. If the special prosecutor felt there was not probable cause to believe they lied he would be legally obligated to dismiss. Tyler not in charge of this case and it is still going forward to prosecution. That is if the court doesn't play buddy buddy again and help these crooks out.

  • No matter how guilty a Victoria city official is... Victoria's prosecuting attorney and not a politician will mess up and use alot of taxpayers monies to do alot of nothing. Same old story in Victoria and we should not be surprised if these offenders are let off. So the question is, do we still want the same results? Your vote does count so use it...

    October 27, 2010 at 10:13 p.m.
  • A vote for Steve is a vote for letting the bad guy get away, and going after the ones that are out there trying to catch them!

  • FOUR more years of this?!?! Steve "I'm not a Politican" has made us a laughing stock in Texas. It's time he stopped playing his revenge games with the "house's" (OUR'S!) money.
