More than 8,830 Victoria County households collected Social Security income during 2009.
But this story isn't about Social Security income.
Thanks to the first five-year release of American Community Survey data, Victoria County and the Crossroads can now take a fresh look at the people who call this area home.
The data allows for up-close looks - at the number of Social Security recipients, for example - and broad snapshots - such as the current breakdown of population by ethnicity.
Of a dozen questions we asked, a few highlights:
Is Victoria County home to more Hispanic residents than Caucasians?
Are Victoria County residents predominantly older?
Do more people walk or use public transportation to get to work?
The survey data, collected by the U.S. Census Bureau, also includes information about commute times, income and even women who gave birth during the past year.
How well do you think you know Victoria County, the Crossroads and its people? The survey data might just surprise you.
