Faculty and staff at Victoria College recently completed a successful employee Pirate Cup giving campaign to help raise money for the Victoria College Foundation.
More than $17,000 was raised by 153 participating employees. The campaign is expected to be the largest in Pirate Cup history by the end of the year.
More than 50 percent of the college's faculty and staff supported the campaign, which led to a nearly 200-percent increase in participation from the previous year. Additionally, of the 153 employees who participated, 93 were new donors who had not given to the foundation the prior year.
In fall 2010, the foundation introduced the Pirate Cup campaign as a part of its Tradition of Excellence annual giving campaign. Since the campaign was first launched, faculty and staff have raised a total of more than $60,000.
"We all play a role in maintaining and enhancing the quality of education at Victoria College," said Tom Butler, college president. "With this campaign, we have an opportunity to make a significant impact at Victoria College. The Pirate Cup is an excellent example of how committed our faculty and staff are to making a difference in the lives of our students."
During this year's Pirate Cup campaign, team captains were charged with contacting employees to encourage them to support the foundation. The top three captains with the most combined participation and contributions won the coveted Pirate Cup trophy.
This year's winning captains were Babette Lowe, dean of the Division of Academic Foundations; Kim Smith, director of Title V; and Sherri Pall, director of workforce and continuing education.
The Tradition of Excellence annual giving campaign helps raise money to support the college by providing scholarships, endowments and faculty and staff grants. The campaign also supports the Gonzales Center, the Calhoun County Center and numerous other areas and departments of the college.
