Wharton D.A. Office Candidate - John Roades wants to make county safer
MEET JOHN ROADES
John Roades wants to make Wharton County a better and safer place to live, if elected district attorney.
"We must take care of those who merit our help in their time of need," he said.
Roades, who has practiced law for 36 years, said he plans to bring experience and proven management skills to the DA's office.
He added that the information will flow more efficiently through the criminal justice system than it does now.
If elected, he said he will never forget that it's the community's tax dollars being spent.
The 61-year-old Wharton resident said criminals should be punished and crime victims should get the attention they deserve.
His experience includes being the only candidate who has served as the district attorney in Matagorda and Wharton counties, county attorney in Wharton, managed two public prosecutor's offices and a private practice law office.
If elected, Roades said he will bring accountability, sound business practice, frugality, reason and common sense to the office.
"Every tax dollar will be accounted for and tough policies of fiscal conservatism will be established," he said.
He promises to be tough on crime, but fair in the application of the law, as well as reflect Wharton County's family values in the duties of the DA's office.
Former Texas Ranger Jeff Cook said he supports Roades. The two have known each other for at least 30 years. Cook, who lives in Katy and works in the constable office in Harris County, commends Roades on his honesty and integrity.
"He's absolutely the person I would want in that job," he said.
Roades described himself as a highly organized, experienced attorney, seasoned in law, trial work and prosecutor/law office management.
"I am a problem-solver, adept at taking on and solving problems, both large and small," he said.
He added that his leadership skills can help improve the working relationships among the various participants in the Criminal Justice System without compromising the integrity of any of them.
