• VISD needs to make some major changes in how they educate Special Ed students due to personl experience they are purposely letting them fall through the cracks and they deserve the same quality education that regular ed students receive. Our son was kept on the same grade level for 5 years he was moved to another School where he was taught on the level he should have been and just Graduated after 16 yrs in School with a Diploma we are so very proud to look at from another out of town School. VISD should be ashamed for doing this.

  • I don't know many of the folks in VISD Administration. Does VISD have any of those folks that are hanging on because they know the right people and not because they actually provide value?
This is always a great time for a little house cleaning.

  • "...but she was concerned about the district's dropout rate, the number of teenage pregnancies and lackluster performance on the STAAR test."

So Ms. Ybarra, you have issues with a man who can't really do anything about 2 of the issues you identified?

Dropout rate is a problem in areas with a large population of people who don't value education. Tough to change a culture.

So unless he is impregnating teens himself and stops doing so how could he lower the rate? That starts and stops at home.

And from what I am hearing the STAAR test was tougher than TAKS and all districts that I have heard about complained about lower results that is why they don't count for anything this year.

Welcome to VISD Mr. Jaklich, we will gladly take you here and wish you all the successes you had at Harlandale and more. I would love for VISD to be rated exemplary. Hopefully you will realize the value of the teachers and those on the ground and stop the bloat of middle management.

  • He will not be able to make the changes overnight. It is going to be a wait and see game. My first impression of VISD when I moved here six years ago was the thought that I had just moved to the 5th ward of Houston. I sure hope this guy can turn things around for the better!

  • I really hope so. I have two small children that I am really concerned about sending to VISD!!! I have high hopes about this new superintendent, but I'm sure I'll be disappointed.
