The Victoria Business and Education Coalition honors its mentors and volunteers for their hard work with Victoria school district students.

This week, mentors from the Hospice of South Texas will be recognized for providing strong leadership and tutoring help to students in need.

"I enjoy helping others and plus the feeling of accomplishment feels awesome," said Victoria West High School mentor Blanca Ruiz.

Diana Garcia, mentors at Hopkins Elementary School twice a week.

"I enjoy the smiles on their faces when I give them praises for doing well," Garcia said.

At Stroman Middle School, Tracey Horne tries her best to make it every Tuesday to work with students after school.

"I love seeing the light bulb come on in her eyes," Horne said.

Samantha Jacobs who also mentors at Stroman, just joined the program this year.

"Not all kids have an adult readily available to them," Jacobs said. "I am grateful for the mentors in my life."
