2 Cuero High students injured in crash
Two Cuero High School students were seriously injured Saturday when the vehicle they were riding in crashed in DeWitt County.
Christy Schuenemann, a close friend of both victims, said the girls, both 17, were in a vehicle returning from Victoria to Cuero.
Schuenemann, a resident of Meyersville, said she has been in contact with relatives and friends of the two victims, getting updates throughout Saturday.
She said the girls were traveling with two boys, one of whom was driving and lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a post about 1 p.m. and then caught fire.
Katelynn Mckay and Mallory Hoffman, both suffering from numerous injuries, were initially taken to Citizens Medical Center.
Katelynn was listed late Saturday in stable condition with what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Schuenemann said Katelynn suffered a broken leg, a bruised sternum, several broken ribs and a bruised heart.
She said Mallory suffered a broken back in the crash and was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Austin.
Department of Public Safety officials said details about the crash were not available late Saturday.
