Victoria woman hospitalized after car collides with 18-wheeler
A 47-year-old Victoria woman was rushed to DeTar Hospital early Friday morning after the car she was driving collided with a tractor-trailer on Farm-to-Market Road 1432.
Donna Walentovic was driving west on the road, about one-tenth of a mile west of state Highway 185 when a 2007 Freightliner, pulled out of the parking lot of a gas station into her lane, said Department of Public Safety Trooper Gerald Bryant.
Walentovic's 2012 Kia Soul struck the left front quarter panel of the truck, which was hauling more than 7,000 gallons of crude oil, Bryant said.
The impact ruptured the saddle fuel tank of the truck, spilling about 60 gallons of diesel onto the roadway and into a ditch.
A remediation crew from Schneider National trucking company arrived to clean up the spill, Bryant said.
Walentovic was taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro by Victoria Fire Department Emergency Medical Services, but was later transferred to another hospital, where she was listed in fair condition, according to a spokesperson. The official would not say where she was transferred.
The truck driver, Raymond Bernard Carter, 60, of Victoria, was not injured, Bryant said. Carter was issued a citation for failure to yield the right-of-way.
