The condition of Ricardo Sanchez, the tractor-trailer driver injured in Tuesday's fiery wreck on U.S. Highway 59, has been upgraded to stable at Citizens Medical Center.

Sanchez, 33, of Katy, underwent surgery after Tuesday's 6 a.m. crash with a pickup underneath the state Highway 185 overpass.

The pickup driver, Joseph Jones, 54, of Victoria, remains in stable condition at DeTar Hospital Navarro.

The tractor-trailer caught fire after the collision, and portions of both roadways were closed most of the morning.

The cause of the wreck continues to be under investigation by Victoria Police, said Sgt. Eline Moya, the department's public information officer.
