UHV sweeps Centenary
SHREVEPORT, La. - The UHV softball team got back on track Friday with a pair of double-digit victories over Centenary College.
The Jaguars (6-14) defeated Centenary (1-15) 16-2 in Game 1 and 12-0 in Game 2.
Alicia Fikac pitched a three-hit shutout in Game 2 in only five innings of work. Casey Sax and Jena West each drove in three runs and scored a run themselves. Marley Moehrig went 2 for 3 at the plate with a walk and two runs scored. Brittany Arredondo scored three runs.
Naomi Trevino recorded a two-run home run in her only hit of the game.
Game 1 saw UHV jump out to a 6-0 lead after two innings of play, and then after a scoreless third the Jaguars plated six runs and gave up two to Centenary.
Arredondo was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with a RBI and four runs scored. Moehrig was also perfect at the plate (3 for 3) but also had a home run and five RBIs.
Alex Holland earned the victory on the mound. In five innings of work, Holland allowed just one earned run on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
NOTES• The start time for the Jaguars' doubleheader scheduled Wednesday against Oklahoma Baptist has changed to 2 p.m.
