Texas First Lady Anita Perry will make a stop in Cuero on Thursday.

As part of the Texas Main Street Program First Lady's Tour, Perry will be joined by members of the Texas Historical Commission, according to a news release from the Cuero Main Street Program.

Cuero is re-entering the Texas Main Street Program after a more than 20-year absence.

"The city of Cuero and its citizens welcome the First Lady of Texas with open hearts for the re-dedication ceremony of Cuero into the Main Street program," said Cuero Mayor Sara Post Meyer. "We look forward to working with representatives of the THC in the next years to help revitalize our downtown business district."

Perry has long been a supporter of the Texas Main Street Program, according to the news release.

"As Texans, we are united through our state's collective history, and it is heartwarming to see local residents working side by side through local Main Street programs to revitalize their historic downtowns," Perry said. "Having grown up in a small Texas town, I have great respect for how much hard work goes into an important community endeavor like this."

After Perry's keynote address, the Texas Historical Commission staff will unveil a rendering featuring several buildings on Main Street and what they would look like after being restored. A public reception will follow the ceremony.

"We are very excited to welcome the First Lady of Texas for this great event," said Bridgette Bise, Cuero Main Street manager. "It's a great day for Cuero, and we hope everyone comes downtown and celebrates with us."

The Independent Bankers Association of Texas sponsors the annual First Lady's Tour, visiting towns that have joined the Main Street Program.
