Javelinas receive all-region honors
KINGSVILLE - Texas A&M-Kingsville's Dallas Ponder was named Pitcher of the Year on the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Division II South Central All-Region Team.
Ponder went unbeaten in the regular season before finishing with a 10-2 record and a 3.46 ERA. He had 88 strikeouts in 88.1 innings.
Ponder was also named to the ABCA first team and joined teammate Jeremy Flores on the second team of the National College Baseball Writers Association's South Central All-Region Team.
Flores, a Memorial graduate, finished the year with a single-season record 14 saves and set a school record with 23 career saves.
Texas A&M-Kingsville's C.J. Griggs earned all-region honors from the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association.
Griggs, a Van Vleck graduate, was honored in the high jump and long jump and will compete in both events at the national meet.
Bay City graduate Stoney Davis was honored in the hammer throw.
Memorial graduate Samantha Alvarez was honored in the high jump, and Goliad graduate Amber Perry was honored in the 400-meter dash after qualifying for the national meet for the second-straight year.
