Doctorate students receives Mellon fellowship
Jennifer Carlson, a Ph.D. candidate in anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin, has been awarded a Mellon-CES Dissertation Completion Fellowship for the 2013-14 academic year. One of only 20 awards given nationwide each year, the fellowship is funded by the Mellon Foundation and administered by the Council of European Studies at Columbia University. Carlson's dissertation is based on ethnographic fieldwork that she conducted in Germany from 2011 to 2012 in a Northern German village that is being transformed by alternative energy technology. The fellowship will fund her final year of dissertation writing at the University of Texas. Carlson is a 1998 graduate of Victoria High School, a 2002 graduate of Southwestern University and holds a master of arts degree from the University of Chicago. She is the daughter of Swede and Sally Carlson, of Victoria.
