Responsible pet owners follow the laws

Editor, the Advocate:

This is in response to Sharon Mathiews' letter (Oct. 29) regarding her lost cats.

I sympathize with the loss of your kitties; however, if you live in the city limits, animals are supposed to be leashed when they are outside. Why are your cats out roaming around at night? Responsible pet owners follow the laws, and they protect their pets from just such things.

There is nothing more disgusting than working in your flowerbeds and digging up someone else's stinky cat poop - particularly if you have a cat of your own that you don't allow to infringe on anyone else. There is no way to tell between the strays that may be carrying parasites or disease and someone's pet.

The cats are just being cats; if you want to keep your cats safe, keep them in at night. Supervise them when they are outside if you don't want a litterbox in your home. The ultimate person to blame for their loss may have been yourself.
