Acceptance of abortion is morally wrong
Editor, the Advocate:
This letter will contain issues that may offend some. It will expose how legalizing abortion is morally corrupting our nation. It's unbelievable that we have lost millions of babies to abortion, resulting in the loss of a significant part of a generation.
I believe women, mostly the younger generation, have been indoctrinated to believe abortion is morally and socially acceptable. Supporters of abortion claim women should have control over their bodies; however, having control over whether an unborn baby lives or dies is an entirely different matter. The unborn baby is technically a separate entity and, in a civilized world, should have a legal right to life.
Most abortions are not performed because of danger to the mother's life, birth defects or rape, etc. In fact, most reasons for abortion are indefensible. Many abort their babies because of interference with careers, social lives, financial problems, etc. Some even abort a baby because the sex is not what is desired.
Unwanted pregnancies are avoidable, as there are numerous products on the market and/or medical procedures that can be utilized to prevent pregnancy. If preventive measures are ignored, or mistakes are made, individuals should accept responsibility for their actions, and abortion should not be a convenient solution. Placing an unwanted baby up for adoption is the moral and civilized solution.
Legalized abortion has opened Pandora's Box on how we regard the sanctity of life. Let's review the other end of human life involving the elderly. With the current mindset regarding abortion, how long will it be before laws are passed to take elderly lives because of age, physical condition or results of health care restrictions? Already, the subject has been broached in political circles and to some extent included in the health care law.
It is hard to believe that considering all the atrocities committed on humanity throughout recorded history, we have made abortion legal and accept the killing of millions of babies as socially and morally acceptable. My belief is that abortion is morally wrong and represents a form of genocide.
