ALVIS FRED WAGNER
VICTORIA - Al Wagner (Lyin'Al) passed away on April 29, 2013 from an extended illness, at the age of 85. Al was the first born of four children to Walter Edwin & Lucy Reuter Wagner on February 6, 1928. He was a native Victorian and attended Patti Welder High School before joining the US Army Air Corp in 1946. Mother and Dad had to sign for Al to join the air corp because he was not old enough. He promised Mother that he would get his G.E.D. if they would let him go. They signed for Al to join. Alvis was stationed in Tacoma WA and served his country honorably until 1949 earning his sergeant's stripes as an air traffic controller and completing his GED, as promised. After leaving the military, he worked for I.E. DuPont Chemical Plant Bloomington for 35 years before his retirement. One of his proudest achievements was the building of DuPont Park for its employees.
Alvis was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers; John Edward and Walter Edwin, Jr. Wagner, his step-children Donnie Howard and Karla Henry. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; sister, Lucy Wagner Eastland/Tom, his children: Chuck Wagner/Laura and Kris Naquin/Ronnie; along with his step-children Sharon Smith/Reed and Dale Howard/Kathy.
Al and Wilma were married in 1985 and blended their families, so, together they enjoyed their grandchildren: Garrett and Drue Wagner, Blair Wagner, Chase and Michael Naquin, and Cassie Naquin Almour/Cole, Shawn, Matthew, and Kurt Lange, Karen Howard Templet, Denise Howard Haik, Jason Keith, Justen Immenhauser, and Melissa Howard. They were, also, blessed with 19 great-grandchildren for Al to agitate and aggravate.
Before his illness, Al was always busy with his hobbies of gardening, fishing, hunting, water skiing, motorcycles, woodworking, taking Wilma dancing or playing the guitar for everyone's enjoyment.
Alvis was not much of a "suit" man; so, join us in boots and jeans to celebrate his life and adventures.
Wilma would like to invite all who knew her and Al to a visitation at Rosewood Funeral Home Friday, May 3, 2013 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM; graveside services will be held at Memorial Cemetery on Main Street at 11:30 AM.
