George Luke Daly

JACKSONVILLE - George Luke Daly of Jacksonville, Texas, passed away peacefully in Tyler, Texas, on Sunday, April 28, 2013. He was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Shreveport, La., to Mark and Mary Reitze Daly. He attended Catholic schools in Shreveport and graduated from Centenary College with a bachelor of science degree in natural sciences. He served in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Medic in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. George's career as a corrosion engineer for United Gas Pipeline spanned 34 years, where he worked in Shreveport, New Orleans, and Victoria, Texas. He was a life member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers and past chairman of NACE chapters in Shreveport and New Orleans, and a published author in his field. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus.
George is predeceased by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Alma Lee Clark; his brothers John, Claude and Mark; and his sister Madeline Guillot. He is survived by his four children, Susan Kennedy (Russell), Tom Daly (Diane), Ruth Riepe (Randy), and Don Daly (Robin); eight grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley), Sara, Ellen, Jordan and Cole Daly; Eric Kennedy (Jayna); and Lee Ann and Lindsey Nixon; two great-grandchildren, Ansley and Emma Kennedy; four sisters, Mary Jepsen, Margaret Daly, Catherine Daly and Patricia Taylor; and his sister-in-law, Betty Parks.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Jacksonville on Saturday, May 4, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Jesuits of the New Orleans Province or the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church (Jacksonville) building fund.
Visitation will be Friday, May 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with a Rosary recitation at 6 p.m.
