JOHN T. WEBB
VICTORIA - John Thomas, J.T. "Sonny" Webb, of Nursery, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013. He was born July 17, 1926, to John S. Webb and Myrtle Droddy Webb, on the Keeran Ranch in Victoria County. He was raised a Baptist. Sonny served three years in the United States Army. Sonny married Lu M. Vowell on March 26, 1953 in Colorado City, Texas.
Sonny and Lu celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. He worked as a plant operator for Texas Eastern Pipeline Company for 27 years, until his retirement in 1983. His work ethic was unparalleled; he always exhibited a "can do" attitude. Sonny was a lifelong rancher and true cowboy who ran his own cattle operations and managed others in Dewitt and Victoria counties. He was a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. It was said by many across South Texas," there was not a horse that he could not ride and not a bad bull that he could not rope or pen!" He was called on by many for his superior ranching skills. Sonny had a keen eye for good cattle. He was a proud lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and Cuero Gun Club. As an expert marksman he practiced predator control and always made sure the freezer was stocked with deer meat. He had a passion for hunting and loved his deer as much as his cattle. Sonny was known and loved by people from all walks of life and could entertain a crowd for hours with his wonderful storytelling ability. Family was very important to Sonny, he raised his sons to provide, protect and care deeply for their families. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, known to his granddaughters as "Granddaddy".
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Helen Nance. He is survived by his wife, his brother James G. "Jim" Webb, sons John L. Webb (wife Debbie) and Thomas L. Webb (wife Kelly); granddaughters, Julie Gray (husband Marc), Jennifer Webb, Alyssa Tinsley (husband Klaus); great-grandchildren Jolie Shae Lambert, Marlie Faith Carol-Ann Gray, Thomas Webb Tinsley and a great-granddaughter due in August.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Lisa Anzaldua, his personal care nurse, who became a part of our family and made Sonny's life richer. The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to Lisa Davis and the nurses from Accolade Hospice, the caring nurses and administration at Cuero Nursing and Rehabilitation, and the skilled nursing unit at Citizens Hospital.
