Janie Stokes Stewart

Born on Feb. 28, 1911

WEESATCHE - Janie Stokes Stewart, 102, a long-time resident of Weesatche, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 24 while under the care of Hospice in Cuero. Born February 28, 1911 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the late Dr. and Mrs. W.D. Stokes, she led a long and adventurous life.
Janie loved to play golf and was an avid fan of many sports, and arguably was one of Dallas Cowboys oldest longstanding fans, as she said "…up until Tony Romo…". She loved to travel and enjoyed many trips exploring various countries with family and close friends. She enjoyed ranch life and spending time outdoors gardening and bird watching. When asked about her longevity, she attributed it to good genes, country living and laughed about her habit of eating bacon everyday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband D. L. Stewart, son Jon Douglas Stewart, daughter Joan S. Folks, and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
She is survived by her son Douglas L. Stewart and his wife Glenda in Douglasville, Georgia, grandson Jon Devin Stewart and his wife Mary in San Antonio, granddaughter Teri Stewart in Atlanta, granddaughter Christina Stewart of Slidell, Louisiana, many nieces and nephews in Louisiana and Mississippi, and great-grandchildren Jon S. Stewart and Maia C. Stewart of San Antonio.
A service will be held on November 9th at 4 p.m. at the Weesatche Community Center to celebrate Janie's life and the life of her daughter, Joan Folks, who passed away two weeks prior to Janie's death.
In lieu of flowers, her family has asked memorial donations be made to Hospice of South Texas, 605 E Locust Ave, Victoria, TX 77901.
