To all those who stopped to inquire if they could help when they saw us stranded in the right turn lane of Laurent at Sam Houston on Friday just about dusk, Thank you! As I told the policeman who provided flashing lights and directed traffic around us, if I had taken a poll, easily, 80 percent of those who passed did ask if we were OK. Of those who drove past, probably most saw me wave others around us and saw no need to stop. What a renewal of faith in the goodness of others.
Several walked over to see what they could do for us. But this is mostly to acknowledge Madelyne Adams, a young lady on her way home from work at Jason’s Deli. She saw our plight as she drove past, circled the block, parked in the Family Dollar lot and walked over to offer assistance. She even called her dad to see if he could come help (he was out of town) and let me use her cell phone to check the ETA of Allan’s towing service.
Finally, after quite a wait, she drove my wife home in Castle Hills and waited to see that she was safely in the house. What an angel! She could not have been kinder, or sweeter, or more solicitous. Those who know her must be happy for the privilege. My wife and I were indeed blessed by our chance meeting. Thank you, Madelyne — you and all those others. Sincerely.
