Chris: Do you know much about the Khan Academy? It flips the model of education and is being tested (with measured success so far) in California and elsewhere. The academy's founder and philosophy were just featured on "60 Minutes" and in previous months on Ted, PBS, NPR, etc. They use a simple platform in ways that seem to engage even troubled students. Here's the site: http://www.khanacademy.org/

My vote is Klinsmann. We need an attacking-minded, creative coach to rejuvenate the men's team and the youth program. I hope U.S. Soccer nabs a foreign-born coach at the very least.
siub: Yes, I definitely want and solicited your input. You made an unsubstantiated claim in your comment, however. I meant to send you a personal note about it, too, but I hope this answer suffices.
Thanks -- Gabe.
People seem quick to suggest the park is riddled with crime. Cochran on Tuesday noted that just because some visitors play loud music, it does not necessarily suggest they are criminals.
Here's from Bruce Ure, the city's assistant city manager and its former police chief:
"An allegation of Riverside Park being an area with elevated crime is simply not correct. Police calls for service are extremely low in our parks, including Riverside.
Unfortunately though, we are faced with the occasional vandalism, which we take very seriously. Our officers do patrol the Riverside restroom area, because in the past, we have unfortunately uncovered some limited criminal activity in the area.
VPD’s tolerance in this area is truly zero, because our parks are there for safe, family fun and our officers take great pride in our city facilities."
Thanks for the comment, double. I'm not arguing one way or the other. The study, though, points out that out-of-town guests are great economic drivers and the VCC is primarily used by local folks.
The thinking goes that if you have a convention center with an associated hotel, you can better attract those out-of-towners who spend money.
Thanks again -- Gabe

The names on the list of Outreach Word Academy board members posted below are correct, but the titles are incorrect.
I contacted the Texas Education Agency this morning. Here's what the TEA has:
John Sweet is president.
Emett Alvarez is treasurer.
Lenora Offlee is secretary.
Larry Helms is a board member.
Jim Wyatt is a board member.
I hope that clarifies that question. -- Gabe
