Here at the Victoria Advocate I am blessed with a schedule that belongs to the bottom rung of full time employees. In other words, I work nights. Working nights as a photographer at a daily newspaper means that I shoot a lot of high school sports. I mean a lot. One of the greatest things about this, and the sheer size of our coverage area, is that I get to travel all around to different schools to cover their games. (Seriously, have y'all noticed? Our coverage area is HUGE!) In going to all of these games I have begun to notice some things about the different schools.

Last Friday I attended the Bay City vs. El Campo rivalry game. I had originally intended to write this post about how Bay City students have the most school spirit out of any school I have ever seen. The kids showed up in matching shirts, they had their faces and bodies painted, and they danced and cheered their hearts out. I mean look at these kids, how awesome:

I have no idea what the monkey suit is about, but I like it. (There was also a kid in a banana suit with a scream mask over it running in front of him. Cause, why not?) Image

Now, my original intention was to tell the local schools (which I cover more) to take a page from Bay City and kick up the spirit because excited, spirited, crazy fans are a lot of fun to photograph. However, I covered the East vs. West volleyball game last night and I was so impressed that I had to rethink my post. The game was electric with excitement from the huge turnout of fans that came to support their team. So, instead of asking fans in Victoria to kick it up a notch, I must simply ask that they keep up the good work.
