How uplifting to see the optimism at the kickoff luncheon for the Victoria County United Way campaign Thursday. The folks in attendance included those who help raise a lot of money, but also representatives from the 20 agencies that benefit from United Way funds. They all seem to have their eyes on the same prize -- helping those that need assistance. If your workplace does not have a United Way fund drive, contact the United Way at 361-578-3561 and see about getting one started. There are so many worthwhile organizations out there doing such great work. If you are looking for something to do with the kiddos on Saturday, check out the Family Fun Fest at Athey Nature Park on Vine Street in Victoria. From 3-7:30 p.m., the Children's Discovery Museum and Keep Victoria Beautiful are sponsoring a fun-filled family event. Dress the kids prepared to get wet on the slip-and-slide. All nonprofit organizations in our area are invited to take part in our Helping Hands series which appears in print every Saturday. Contact me for details. Also, nonprofit agencies are encouraged to post calendar items and blog on our website. It's a useful tool. If you need help getting started, again, contact me.
