I read on Facebook about the proposed moment of silence at 8:30 a.m. Friday for the victims of the school shooting in Connecticut a week earlier. I was in a busy place of business as the time approached and the thought entered my head to stand up and announce to everyone, "be quiet!" And tell them why. But I knew I couldn't do that, so I closed my eyes and bowed my registers ringing, conversations chirping around me. After briefly asking God to be with the victims' families and friends, I wanted to do more. How long is a "moment?" A minute. Less? More? So, I bowed my head again and turned to an old reliable. "Our father who art in heaven..." As I reopened my eyes...8:31...I noticed that no one had noticed my brief vigil, nor had anyone else that I noticed taken part. A moment's prayer or reflection never hurts, no matter the reason, the time or the day. With that said, let me add "Merry Christmas!"
