This weekend we gathered outside Walgreens in El Campo to take donations and register people for our walk/run and health fair. I just have to say that I love the support we are getting and I am moved by the stories I hear.

Almost everyone had a story... I lost my husband to diabetic complications, I lost my siblings early because of diabetic complications, my son has diabetes, my grand daughter became a nurse so she can help those with diabetes, and more than one thank you for doing something. That's what we are doing, something ... as much as we can. And we want others to help. Our event is about advocacy, awareness, and education. So many people have stereotypes about diabetes it's shameful. That's why we are trying to educate people. We also want people dealing with diabetes to meet others so that they can share or at least talk to someone who is going through the same thing. Finally we are advocating for a cure... That's right, a cure. There is no cure for diabetes, only methods of treating it so that you can survive. Those methods range anywhere from taking a pill once a day to giving yourself four shots a day. But still no cure. In this day and age, a disease that has been around this long, and there is no cure. We need to do better.

At least where we are at we are moving forward. I do have some more people who donated and I am super excited to say a huge thank you to th for their donations:

Praseks, Mustang Creek BBQ (aka Cecil's), and Leech Insurance. Thank you so much and thank you to everyone who has donated and will donate.

It's not too late, you can still donate and sign up for our event. Hope to see y'all out there!
