I loved today's question of the day: What role did your grandparents play in your life growing up or what role do they play in your children's lives?

I could not imagine my life without my gram in it.

We lived with her when I was growing up. Her house was my home. Just as much as my parents, and sometimes more, she was my rock.

She killed wasps when they stung and comforted me when I cried. She taught me how to ride a bike and picked me up when I fell. She read to me when I was little and and then taught me so I could do it on my own. She was always at all of my tournaments, choir concerts and debate contests.

In a lot of ways, she was like another parent. But, thankfully, she has always been so much more than that. She is my best friend.

We've snuggled in bed together like we are having a sleepover and gossiped over chocolate. She was my confidante when I experienced my first love, and we giggled over flowers and awkward first date stories. And then she was there to hold me for my first heartbreak, bashing the entire male population with me, again over chocolate.

My gram has filled a lot of roles in my life - grandma, disciplinarian, teacher and friend.

I am so grateful she is still in my life.

Thank you gram.
