If my schedule allows me the time, I volunteer a few hours at the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent. Lately though, I haven't been able to pop in and help with processing donations, but that doesn't mean there aren't donations that need to be processed. The food bank is looking for volunteers.

Yesterday, I received an email from Mary Lou at the food bank explaining that she needed some help this weekend. So, I responded by telling her I would pop in Friday and Saturday morning for a few hours to help catch them up with processing. If you're wondering, it's not hard work at all. Depending on what the volunteers will be doing that day, you might have to pilfer through boxes of canned goods or cereal ensuring the products are clean and ready for inventory or you might be helping with the backpack lunches. Either way, the time goes by pretty quickly.

If you have a few hours to kill before that Fourth of July barbecue (because I'm sure you'll be celebrating this weekend also) or weekend get-together with friends at the beach, swing by and talk to Mary Lou about helping out for a smidge. If you have community hours to fulfill or a group that needs to do some community work, the food bank has ways to complete those hours.

If there are any questions about volunteering at the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, call Mary Lou at 361-578-0591, or email her at mtrevino@feedingamerica.org. I hope to see you there.
