Image August 16, 1841: After President John Tyler vetoed congressional attempts to reestablish the national bank, angry Whigs march on the White House, throw rocks, shoot guns and burn the president in effigy. At first, Tyler hoped that the Whigs, who were notorious drinkers, would eventually forget why they were there. When that didn't work, he released the dogs and fired cannons into the crowd, leading to now-famous saying, "Don't f@#% with the president, he will kill you."
