Even as Hurricane Katia churns through the Atlantic, I am keeping an even closer eye on the trough of low pressure in the central Gulf of Mexico. According to the National Weather Service Hurricane Center, this system could become a tropical depression in the next day or two and has a 70 percent chance of 70 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone. The NWS notes that "interests along the entire northern Gulf of Mexico coast should monitor the progress of this disturbance." While I know we aren't the northern coast of the Gulf, it's worth watching to see if nothing else this one brings us some rain. Victoria has had a grand total of about 8 inches of rain all year.
