Blogs » Your Advocate: an editor's blog » Do you want to be an Advocate columnist?

Many think they can write a regular column. Almost as many fail.

It's tougher than it looks to put yourself out there daily, weekly or monthly for readers. You can't afford to have too many bad efforts, or you'll lose readers fast.

That's why I was sad to learn recently that Kathryn Weber would be leaving Cuero and the Advocate's pages as our home decorating columnist. She wrote her farewell column today.

We wish her the best in her new adventure. If any other budding columnists think they have what it takes, send your writing samples our way. We'll want to see at least three writing samples and a long list of specific column ideas. You can't wing a column from week to week.

The pay isn't great, and the demands of your readers are. Even still, we've been lucky to find many local columnists with a passion for writing. Maybe we'll find another Kathryn Weber out there. Or, more likely, someone with her own unique voice waiting to be heard.

Best of luck, Kathryn. May your feng shui always be just right.
