Behind-the-scenes video by Ian Terry:
It's not Halloween yet, but I received quite a treat Sunday.
For one glorious afternoon in downtown Victoria, I was a zombie, rolling around in the grass, scaring co-workers (more than usual) and laughing with the kids who also came out to be part of the Victoria Advocate's commercial. I can cross a couple of items off my bucket list: Be in a commercial? Check. Be undead? Check.
We have multimedia editor Robert Zavala to thank for this inspired madness. He wrote, directed and produced the commercial, which is scheduled to broadcast next weekend on local television and, of course, at VictoriaAdvocate.com.
When he came to me and said he wanted to produce a zombie commercial, I looked at him as if he were crazy. Fortunately, I've learned during Robert's six years at the Advocate to know his crazy ideas always work out magnificently.
Director Robert Zavala sets up a scene for actor Matthew Albrecht, who is about to be grabbed by a horde of zombies.
Sitting in the newsroom before filming started, I told the staff we better make deadline -- or else.
