Flatonia’s Titan Targac named first-team all-state

Flatonia's Titan Targac was named to the first-team Class 2A All-State team Tuesday. (Titan Targac X account)

Flatonia’s Titan Targac’s selection to the first team of the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 2A all-state baseball team released Tuesday comes as no surprise.

What is a surprise is Targac, a senior, was selected as an outfielder and not a pitcher.

Targac, who has signed with Texas State, had an 8-0 record with a 0.43 ERA, and had 139 strikeouts in 65.2 innings pitched.

But Targac hit .545 with 14 doubles, six triples, one home run and 41 RBIs. He had 20 stolen bases and scored 31 runs.

Shiner junior second baseman Jake Simper, and Refugio junior relief pitcher Ray Lewis were selected to the third team.

Shiner pitcher Charlie Clifford and shortstop Carson Schuette, Refugio shortstop Matthew Perez and outfielder Zander Wills, Ganado first baseman Cullen Hajovsky, and Flatonia catcher Beck Zimmerman earned honorable mention.
