A&M-Victoria suffers two losses on Day 2 in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team suffered a pair of losses on Day 2 of the Gulf Coast Invitational.
The Jaguars fell to Tennessee Southern, 9-1 (5 inn.), and Freed-Hardeman, 7-2, on Saturday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
With the losses, A&M-Victoria is now 13-6 on the season.
Game 1 vs. Tennessee Southern
A&M-Victoria struck first thanks to a sacrifice fly by Cristela Trevino to score Madison Carr in the top of the first inning.
Carr finished the game with a team-leading two hits. The Jaguars also got hits from Alyssa Carter, Angelina Morales and Khamryn Werdlow.
Haley Noska suffered the loss after pitching three innings and allowing one earned run on six hits with two strikeouts. A&M-Victoria pitching surrendered four earned runs in the loss.
Game 2 vs. Freed-Hardeman
Trailing 3-0 going into the fourth inning, the Jaguars cut into the deficit thanks to RBIs from Trevino and starting pitcher Zoe Hardy. Trevino had an RBI single before Hardy provided an RBI double two batters later to make it 3-2 at the time.
Trevino led the way offensively with two hits and an RBI. Werdlow, Carter, and Kitty Coe were the other three A&M-Victoria players to record a hit in the game.
Hardy suffered just her second loss of the season in the circle, going five innings and allowing seven runs – four earned – on nine hits while striking out four.
Noska came on for two innings of scoreless relief behind Hardy, giving up just a pair of hits.
A&M-Victoria wraps up play at the Gulf Coast Invitational against St. Ambrose at 9 a.m.
