Victoria East goes 5-0 in home tourney; Warriors finish up at 4-1

Riverside Stadium played host to the final day of the 57th Annual VISD Tournament on Saturday. 

The Victoria East Titans made it a clean 5-0 sweep of tournament play with a 13-1 triumph over Hallettsville-Sacred Heart in four innings in their lone contest Saturday.

Prior to that game, East won over Calhoun and Judson Thursday, and the Titans earned a 14-1 victory over Yoakum in five innings and a 10-0 victory over McAllen in five innings Friday.

East jumped on Sacred Heart early with five runs in the first inning and seven more in the second. All told, East sprayed 14 hits against Sacred Heart pitching.

Third baseman Bentley Blinka and right fielder Deacon Chase both hit home runs for the Titans. Blinka went 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs, two runs scored. Chase went 1-for-2 with a run batted in and a run scored.

Blaine Heinold earned a complete game victory on the mound for East. In four innings of work, Heinold did not allow an earned run on one hit, struck out five and walked two.

  • With a record of 13-3-1, East will host Fort Bend Randle Tuesday night at 6.

    West wins four of five in tournament

    The Victoria West Warriors (11-5) wrapped up tournament play with a record of 4-1. 

    After Thursday victories over Calhoun and McAllen, West was a 9-2 winner in seven innings over Judson and a 9-1 winner in six innings over Sacred Heart on Friday. Calhoun bested West 6-5 in five innings on Saturday.

    West totaled six hits in the loss compared to seven hits for Calhoun. West left fielder Ethan Guerra went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in defeat. Relief pitcher Kage Hradek was the pitcher of record and suffered the loss for West. In two innings, Hradek allowed one earned run on five hits and walked one batter.  

    West will host Fort Bend Kempner on Friday afternoon at 4:30.
