The Victoria West Warriors boys and girls varsity soccer teams both earned blowout victories at home against district foe Fort Bend Marshall at Memorial Stadium Friday. The West boys won their game 7-0 while the West girls prevailed 9-0 over Marshall.

In the boys match, senior Juan Arellano posted another hat trick with three goals. Junior Trent Herman chipped in with a pair of goals for the Warriors. Fellow junior Daniel Garcia and senior Bryan Monjarez scored one goal apiece for West.

Of the seven goals scored by West, only three were assisted. Seniors Craig Sciba logged two assists, and Ethan Van Dusen accounted for the other. The win pushed West’s win streak to 12. In that span, the Warriors have outscored their opponents 34-4.

At 18-1-2 overall and 12-1 in district play, West can win District 22-5A with a victory in the regular season finale Monday at Lamar Consolidated. Fort Bend Kempner also owns a 12-1 district record and will play at Victoria East on Monday. A Kempner win and a West loss would award the district championship to Kempner.

Lady Warriors prevail 9-0 over Marshall

In the girls varsity contest Friday evening at Memorial Stadium, West defeated Marshall 9-0.

  • The win pushed West’s unbeaten streak to 10 and the Lady Warriors have compiled a 9-0-1 record in that span. In total, West has outscored opponents 43-3 through the past 10 matches. West’s record improves to 17-4-2 overall and 11-1-1 in District 22-5A

Victoria East also won Friday evening 6-0 at Lamar Consolidated. A West victory Monday on the road against Lamar would ensure West wins the district championship. However, a West loss combined with an East home victory over Fort Bend Kempner on Monday would mean East wins the district title.

East goes into play Monday with a district mark of 10-1-2. East is unbeaten in its last 12 games with a mark of 10-0-2 in that span. East has outscored opponents 40-6 in that span.
